Welcome to The Karen Maison Studio of Piano
& The Maison System of Music for Children! |
 |
| The Maison System is being used by professional music
teachers as well as parents and children who have never had
a music lesson. |
 |
The Karen Maison Studio of Piano is located at 6554 E. Cave
Creek Road, Suite 9, in Cave Creek, Arizona, where I teach beginning,
intermediate and advanced students who range from four to eighty
years of age. My goal is to assist each student in becoming
a musical pianist who can read independently and has the technical
skills to enjoy making music as gift to his or her self for
a lifetime. However, when students have desired to pursue a
career in music, I've had the pleasure of assisting them in
preparing auditions for their ultimate acceptance in composition,
music education and piano performance undergraduate degree programs.
I developed The Maison System Books I, II and III after meeting
with transfer students who had studied piano for two or more
years, couldn't read music independently and relied on crutches
such as finger numbers or acronyms to decipher the music. The
Maison System's success is derived from the knowledge that all
of us learn differently. It enables students to learn how to
read music through the use of carefully
designed multisensory activities that allow a child to observe,
listen, move and touch. Children whose fingers lack dexterity
are able to learn notes through association.
They touch their elbows to learn bass clef line 4 and ears for
bass clef line 5. Then, they toss a bean bag to reach the corresponding
line or space note on the floor until their hands have developed
enough to begin playing the piano or another instrument. The
most effective instructional programs for children incorporate
auditory, visual, kinesthetic and tactile learning, using multiple
senses to reach all children.
What other people are saying about Karen Maison's System
of Music:
"In my opinion, this is the best course I have
seen for teaching beginning students all the skills necessary
for learning to play the piano and I have used almost every
course at some time in my career". Dr.
Irene Weiss Peery-Fox (Professor at Brigham Young University)
"The Maison System captures
childrens' imagination, expands their cognitive skills, develops
their memory and creates a lifelong love of music".
Sandra
Crew (Elementary Administrator)
"I am always looking for a good curriculum that brings
the student to a level of mastering each concept as it is introduced,
which uses time wisely and enables the teacher to reach each
student at their own level. I have purchased many programs in
many different subjects and believe that The Maison System is
by far the best I have ever been privileged to experience".

Educator) |

scored higher on the SAT: students in music performance scored 57 points
higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math, and students in
music appreciation scored 63 points higher on verbal and 44 points higher
on the math, than did students with no arts participation. |
